Robin Van Persie To Stay at Arsenal?
The Sunday Mirror are reporting tooday that our skipper RVP has performed a remarkable U-Turn, and now has a mind to stay at Arsenal. Obviously, the reliability of the article must come under a lot of scrutiny. As RVP effectively said that he wasn’t extending his contract due to our ‘lack of ambition’, our sudden display of clear ambition (with Cazorla etc.) was bound to spark a U-Turn article. However, on the other hand, there have been many reports that RVP’s attitude in training has been much improved in recent days. Anyway, you guys can judge, here’s a quote from the article:
“Robin van Persie is set to make a dramatic U-turn and stay at the Emirates.
Arsenal’s star striker made it clear at the start of the summer that he wanted to move on because of the club’s lack of ambition.
Arsene Wenger ordered van Persie to stay at home and miss Arsenal’s tour of the Far East.
But, significantly, the Dutchman, who is 29 on Monday, will be part of the Arsenal party that heads to Germany on his birthday.
Club insiders believe van ¬Persie, who has a year remaining on his contract, now wants to stay.
The next challenge will be for the club to table a contract that gets him to commit to the club for the long term.
The summer signings of Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud, as well as the imminent arrival of Spain -international Santiago Cazorla, in a £9million deal from Malaga, have impressed the captain.”
The article also goes on to say what has already been reported, that Arsenal are trying to get their captain to stay till January, and reassess the situation then. One thing I would say, though, is that it seems possible that Van Persie could still be here when our season kicks off (exactly two weeks from now!). If that is the case, I would ask all Arsenal fans to not boo him but rather get behind all the lads. Because, let’s face it, our team is better with RVP as it’s spearhead; so I would have him stay. And,if I may hazard a guess, he is more likely to stay if he get behind him, rather than if we slag him off. Besides, if he does go, there will be plenty of time to boo him later…
